How to Configure E-mail



How to Configure Eudora Mail
Ver. 3.0.1


Eudora Mail 3.0.1 is the newest Shareware version of Eudora Mail.

    To configure Eudora 3.0.1 follow the steps below:
  1. Dial into the internet, then start Eudora mail.
  2. After Mail is started, click on the "Tools" menu, then "Options".
  3. From the "Options" screen click on the "Getting Started" icon.
  4. For "POP Account:" you must enter username@computan.on.ca

    Note 1: username is the name is the name you were given when you signed up with Computan.
    Note 2: If you have a registered domain name you must still use @computan.on.ca for this field,
    your domain name should be substituted into the Return Address field.

  5. For "Real Name:" enter your real name (Optional)
  6. Next click on the "Hosts" icon.
  7. For "SMTP:" enter smtp.computan.on.ca
  8. Finally click on the "Sending Mail" icon.
  9. For "Return Address:" leave this blank except as outlined in Note 2.
  10. That is all the configuration you should have to do, there are other options but at this point eudora should work just fine.
  11. Click "OK", and that should be it, your email should now be configured.


How to Configure Netscape Mail for Navigator 3.x

Netscape Navigator is one of the most popular web browsers available today. Netscape can be used to handle personal email, but before this can happen it must be properly configured to work with Computan's Internet Service.


To setup Netscape Mail, follow the steps below:
  1. Dial into the internet, then start Netscape.
  2. After Netscape is started, click on "Options" then "Mail and News Preferences", then finally on "Servers".
  3. For "Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:" enter smtp.computan.on.ca
  4. For "Incoming Mail (POP3) Server:" enter mail.computan.on.ca
  5. For "POP3 User Name:" enter your "username" ie. john or jsmith (this is also what you use to dial into Computan)
  6. For "News (NNTP) Server:" enter news.computan.on.ca

    There are other options on this screen, but unless you are certain of their function you should probably leave them alone for now.

  7. Click on the "Identity" tab.
  8. For "Your Name:" you can enter your real name (Optional)
  9. For "Your Email:" you should enter your email address, ie. jsmith@computan.on.ca

    Note 1: If you have a registered Domain Name, substitute it for computan.on.ca in the step above.

  10. For "Reply-to Address:" you don't need anything here.
  11. For "Your Organization:" if you have a company you wish to be associated with, enter the name here.
  12. The "Signature File:" should be left blank unless you already understand its funcion.
  13. Click "OK", and that should be it, your email should now be configured. To launch mail, click on "Window", then "Netscape Mail".




How to setup and configure Netscape Communicator Mail ver. 4.x


    To configure Netscape 4.x follow the steps below:

  1. Dial into the internet, then start Netscape Communicator.
  2. After Communicator is started, click on the "Edit" menu, then "Preferences".
  3. Doubleclick on the "Mail & Groups" item listed under Catagory.
  4. Click on the "Mail Server".
  5. For "Mail Server User Name" you must enter your username

    note: username is the first part of your email address, ie. john@computan.on.ca where john is the username.

  6. For "Outgoing mail(SMTP) server" enter "smtp.computan.on.ca"
  7. For "Incoming mail server" enter "mail.computan.on.ca"
  8. Under the "Mail Server type:" verify that the "POP3" tab is checked off.
  9. Next, from the"Category"list, click on"Identity"
  10. In the space identified as E-mail Address enter username@computan.on.ca

    Note 2:if you have a registered Domain Name enter it here inplace of computan.on.ca

  11. In the space identified as Reply-to Address enter username@computan.on.ca
  12. That is all the configuration you should have to do, there are other options but at this point eudora should work just fine.
  13. Click "OK", and that should be it, your email should now be configured.





How to Configure Microsofts
Internet Mail

Microsoft Internet Mail, is an easy to use functional mail program and is highly recommended by Computan's Staff for use with Windows 95 and Windows 3.x. If you installed Computan's Internet Software, you shouldn't need to configure Internet Mail. However, if you are having difficulties or you have downloaded Internet Mail from another source,


    follow the steps below to set it up:
  1. Dial into the internet, then start Internet mail.
  2. After Mail is running, click on the "Mail" menu, then "Options", then finally on "Server".
  3. For the "Name:" field you can enter your real name (Optional).
  4. For "Organization:" if you have a company you wish to be associated with, enter the company name here (Optional).
  5. For "Email Address:" you should enter your email address, ie. username@computan.on.ca

    Note 1: username is the name is the name you were given when you signed up with Computan.
    Note 2: If you have a registered domain name you must substitute your registered domain for @computan.on.ca in this field.

  6. For "Outgoing Mail (SMTP):" enter smtp.computan.on.ca
  7. For "Incoming Mail (POP3):" enter mail.computan.on.ca
  8. Under "Logon settings", make sure you have selected "Logon using:"
  9. For "Account Name:" enter your "username" ie. john or jsmith (this is also what you use to dial into Computan)
  10. For "Password:" enter your password.

    Note 3:If you fill in this line with your password you won't be prompted for it when you check your mail. if you want additional security on your email, leave this field blank, and you will be prompted for your password each time you check your mail.

  11. Click "Advanced Settings", and in the "Reply To" field enter your email address again. Then click "OK"
  12. Click "OK", again and that should be it, your email should now be configured. Click the send receive button to check whether you have any new mail.




How to Configure Microsoft's Outlook Express

Microsoft Outlook Express, is an easy to use functional mail program and is highly recommended by Computan's Staff for use with Windows 95.   3. If you have more than one mail account listed, delete all accounts except the one you want to use for your Computan email.
  4. After removeing any extra accounts, click on "Properties""
  5. For the "Name:" field you can enter your real name.
  6. For "Organization:" if you have a company you wish to be associated with, enter the company name here (Optional).
  7. For "Email Address:" you should enter your email address, ie. username@computan.on.ca

How to Configure Microsoft's Outlook 97

Microsoft Outlook 97, is installed by default when you install Microsoft office 97. This package has many more features than just email, and therefor if email is your primary concearn, you should just stick with the package you already use. If however you want to configure outlook 97 here are the steps to follow.


  1. Dial into the internet, then start Microsoft Outlook.
  2. After Outlook is running, click on the "Tools" menu, then "Services", in the window that comes up, if you see Internet E-Mail" listed, Remove it.
  3. From the "Services" window, click add then double click on Internet E-mail.
  4. In the box labeled "Mail Account" type in mail.computan.on.ca
  5. For the "Name:" field you can enter your real name.
  6. For "Organization:" if you have a company you wish to be associated with, enter the company name here (Optional).
  7. For
  8. "Email Address:" you should enter your email address, ie. username@computan.on.ca

  16. Click "OK", then "OK" again and then "OK" one last time, and that should be it. After your restart Outlook your email should be properly configured. To check your mail you should just have to click on "Tools" then "Check for New Mail".




How to Configure Microsoft's
