Many of the photos used on this site are black and white and a large number of the color ones are very old, so please keep that in mind when you consider the quality of the scanned images. The photos may have faded over the years, and the color quality is not always the best. If the color was really bad, you will find the photo is included - but in black and white. Three generation pedigrees are included when they are available. Some of them may be missing a registration number here or there, or a sire or dam occasionally, and any help in completing these would be appreciated.
Today, Abyssinians are frequent winners at cat shows and can often be found in the Top Cats at the end of the show season. The breed is recognized by The Cat Fanciers' Association(CFA) in four colors: ruddy, red, blue and fawn. Other associations around the world recognize additional colors, such as silver, etc. NEW! A slideshow of the history of the Abyssinian breed:Take a trip through history with this historical slide show. This presentation covers the breed history from the early beginnings of the breed in the late19th century through to the current show cats of today. It covers the early British cats, imports to North America from Europe, the evolution of the breed in CFA, as well as in Europe and Australia. Part 1: From the Early Beginings to 1950 (46 slides)
NOTE: I am always interested in adding missing photos to this presentation and your help would be appreciated. I am also interested in expanding this presentation to include Abyssinians that have been "foundation stock" in other countries around the world. Please contact Karen Lawrence if you have additional photos or information available.
