Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

Waterfalls!

The Columbia River is a huge river that winds it's way across the northern portion of Oregon, alongside a major highway. Fortunately, there is also a side road which takes one off the beaten path and alongside the Columbia River Gorge, with it's multitude of waterfalls at the side of the road. Many of these waterfalls had paths that you could climb right along side them.

And more waterfalls

The drive along this road was very shaded with overhanging trees, and you just never knew what was going to be around the next bend in the road. This was one of the prettiest 50 miles of road that we drove during our whole 8,000 mile trip.

Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls was the largest of the waterfalls in the Columbia Gorge National Scenic area, and is truly a beautiful sight.

There are just some days when it pays to follow the "scenic route" signs off a major highway!
