Waqas (1)

Meet Waqas! He is a bachelor in a global city with the world as his playground.  He’s also a sharp WordPress developer and a happy guy.  In this installment of Behind The Coding, Waqas talks about politics, social media, and why he’d want to have dinner with his boss.

Hi Waqas! What are the last 3 things you Googled and why?

Hi Sajeel, the first thing I Googled about was an image uploading issue on WordPress.

What was happening?

It’s still happening! An error message says, ‘Server cannot process image.’

I see.  And why can’t it process the image?

I am still trying to figure that out.  You called me, and I had to stop!

Hahaha, Ok, the second thing?

The second thing I Googled was Twitter.

Why are you so into Twitter?

I am a big fan of current affairs.

Twitter has a lot of skewed views of politics.

Yeah, but there are lots of good news sources and politicians on current affairs.  I am a little confused with the political situation in the world.   But happy that people are raising their voices even with the division.

Twitter gives them a platform for that.

Yes, it certainly does.

What else have you been Googling?

Google Analytics – Implementing GA4 and understanding the best ways to do it.

Good stuff, Waqas! Who are 3 people you'd like to have a dinner with at the same time and why?

One would be Javed Ahmed Ghamidi

Ok, why Javed Ahmed Ghamidi, and who is he?

He’s a scholar I find with very interesting and moderate views on how civilizations should be governed and managed.

Ok, who else?

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and, of course, a sporting legend

Why Imran Khan?

Whether people like him or not as a politician is one thing, but we cannot ignore his perseverance and his struggle.  He worked really hard in both cricket and politics to get to where he is.

So you don’t support Ghamidi or Khan…but you like their stories?

Yes exactly.  Something to learn from.

Who would be the third one?

Someone named Sajeel Qureshi.  Do you know him?

Me?! Why?

Honestly, Sajeel, whenever you come to town, the energy changes, and we have not yet had a chance to meet in person yet.  I would love to do that and have a conversation together.

That’s nice of you to say Waqas

Not really.  I feel bad that we haven’t met yet.

And what would we eat?

Lamb, biryani and daal/lentils.  A proper India-Pakistani meal!

It’s a deal! When did you last work after hours to solve a hard problem?

About a week ago.  Haseeb Ilyas (my Project Manager) wanted me to stay after work and do some work for a WordPress client.

That’s normal with Haseeb! When was the last time you cried tears of laughter?

3 or 4 months ago I went out with some University friends.  We shared random memories and reminisced about the old times.

What do you love about coding Waqas?

I love building applications and useful products.  They are tools that benefit others.  It’s my way of building a small little legacy.

Interesting Waqas! When was the first time you saw a computer?

I was in a village during summer vacations.  I was 8 or 9 years old, and my uncle (mom’s brother) had a computer, and we played pong: A classic vacation and a classic game.

What is something your teammates don't know about you? You are a man of mystery to many!

My teammates don’t know a lot about me.  They don’t know that I’m single, maybe! I am living the bachelor life! I like living alone.
