We are all attracted to beautiful things.

We want to observe, linger on and have these beautiful things. It's why stunning design is a top priority for most internet users and it can be the difference of whether they commit to a website or not.

If you're choosing to build your online store on Shopify, then you are choosing a platform that allows you to create beautiful design with ease.

Keep it Simple

If you are using Shopify for your site, you likely are selling products. It is important that your website be right to the point. Many businesses cloud their design with too much information, when simply displaying their products and describing how they solve user problems are the tools they need to sell. Direct your design process and your content development with simplicity as your overarching theme.

Invest in Visuals

Don't settle for less than stellar visuals. This is more than just pretty pictures, you need great fonts and complimentary colour choices. If you don't have product or marketing images that are high-res, hire a photographer. Good photography allows you to really get a visual for what you are buying.

Concentrate on What People Want

When you designing your sites layout and the visuals that will help build out that layout, think about what your ideal customers want. If you are selling hats, think about how you can categorize those hats and which hats are your most popular. Alternatively, who would your target market want to see those hats on? If you're using text to encourage action and compliment your design, what statements would appeal to that buyer? Bottom line, present your value propositions in your design.

Decide on templating or customization

Once you have your design complete, you'll either need to purchase a template and manipulate it to match your design or you'll need to hire a Shopify developer. There are pros and cons to both options. What we will say is that if you have a unique design, often it's more financially friendly to have a custom template created. This way you are not paying for a developer to manipulate a theme that they have not written for multiple small things that build up. In our experience, unless that theme is super, super closer to your design, you'll spend more money on edits.
