Farukh

Meet Farrukh, a fast and clever WordPress Developer on the Computan team in this instalment of Behind the Coding, Farrukh tells about secret learnings that have kept him late at night, the revolutionary person in his family, and why he cries at family gatherings!

Hi Farrukh!  What are the last three things you Googled?

Hi Sajeel, I Googled about Elementor template kits and their purpose.

Is Elementor your favourite builder for WordPress?

I like it a lot.

Why?

There are a lot of widgets compared to other page builders like Divi and Avada.

Gutenberg is pretty good, too, though, right?

It is! It is the native builder in WordPress, for sure.  I prefer Elementor, though.

Ok, what else have you been Googling Farrukh?

I did some research on Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)

You have been doing a lot of WP research, Farrukh!

Very true

What about ACF exactly were you researching?

I was trying to understand how nested repeaters work and how we can store that in an array or object.

Have you been Google searching or researching anything outside of WordPress?

Well, I was looking for a pediatrician for my kids.

Do you have two kids?

Yes, by the grace of God, I have two daughters, Anadiya and Fatima.

You are fortunate!

Yes..and I am outnumbered!

Hahaha.  When did you last work after hours to solve a hard problem, Farrukh?

About a year ago, I was working on a Django task.

Really? I didn’t know you knew Django.

Well, I didn’t have experience with Django then, so it took a bit of time to learn it.  But that took a long time and extra hours.

Did you enjoy it?

I certainly enjoyed it, but it took a lot of time.  Especially time after hours!

Who are three people you'd like to have dinner with at the same time, and why?

That’s easy, my parents.

What can you share with me about them?

Well, they are retired, and they live with me.

Really!  That’s another reason why you are lucky!

I truly am blessed.  My dad was in the military and then did electronic repairs for many years before he retired.

And you’re the oldest.

Yes, that’s right.  I have two sisters and two younger brothers.

That’s too many people to take to a dinner for three if you are taking your mom and dad.

If there was only one other seat, I would take my uncle, my mom’s sister’s husband.

That’s an exciting choice! Why your uncle?

He was a very influential figure in our family. He moved from a village to a big city, and when he did that, others like my parents followed.

So, he was a revolutionary.

He was. That move unlocked different opportunities for my generation.

What would you guys eat?

We love Pakistani food—lamb Karahi, Butter Chicken, reshmi kebab, and Chicken Biryani.

When was the last time you cried tears of laughter?

I cry tears of happiness all the time.  Does that count?

Do you?

Yeah, I’m the oldest brother.  So I do that often.

Ok, when was the last time?

I cried when my parents went on their Umrah pilgrimage and at my younger brother’s wedding—that was laughter as well as happiness, I guess. I love family get-togethers and am always excited and happy when those come up.

It’s clear family is important to you, Farrukh.  What do you love about coding?

I love the challenge of coding and building visually appealing and functional websites. WordPress has a great community and ecosystem—it is big and helpful.

When was the first time you saw a laptop/computer?

At school in Grade 9.  My mom’s brother brought it over…I played a game on it.  Midtown Madness.

That’s a very old game!

It is, but it’s also unforgettable!

You never forget the first game you played on the computer…

Nope, never!

What is something your teammates don't know about you?

My teammates think I’m a really young guy, but I am not! I am married with kids, and I’m family-oriented.

That is very clear, Farrukh!
